Progress built together.

Child Literacy and Foundational Learning

Many children in underserved communities face barriers to accessing quality education and developing the foundational skills they need to succeed. Limited learning opportunities, poverty, family circumstances and gaps in school readiness can leave children behind, particularly those who have had little or no access to formal education.

Development Corners works to create supportive pathways into learning for children who face these barriers. Our approach focuses on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, creating engaging learning environments and supporting children to develop the confidence and skills needed to participate successfully in formal education.

We work with families, schools and community structures to ensure that learning support extends beyond the classroom. Activities may include literacy and numeracy support, reading and library opportunities, school-readiness activities, child protection awareness and engagement with parents and caregivers.

What we aim to achieve

We aim to help children develop stronger foundational learning skills, transition successfully into formal education and remain engaged in learning as they progress through school.

The programme is designed around the principle that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, develop their potential and build a pathway towards a better future.

Development Corners is a registered Zambian non-governmental organisation with certificate No. RNGO 101/1385/2020 committed to supporting stronger, healthier and more economically secure communities.
