Development Corners works alongside underserved communities to

improve education, strengthen health and build sustainable economic opportunities.

Who We Are

Building on experience. Growing with Communities

Development Corners is a registered Zambian non-governmental organisation committed to supporting stronger, healthier and more economically secure communities.

Our team and community work build on more than 13 years of programme implementation experience previously developed through MC-Zambia. We are carrying this experience forward through an independent organisation centred on local leadership, ownership and practical solutions.

Our work currently builds on deep experience in fishing and rural communities in Kafue District, while creating opportunities to extend our approach to other underserved communities facing similar challenges.

Our Approach

We believe development works best when communities are at the centre.

Practical
We turn ideas into practical programmes that create tangible improvements in people’s lives.
Locally Rooted
We build on local knowledge, leadership, institutions and resources.
Community-led
We listen to communities and support solutions that respond to locally identified priorities.
Collaborative
We work with government, communities, civil society, businesses, donors and technical partners.
Sustainable
We seek solutions that strengthen resilience and can continue beyond individual projects or funding cycles.

Our Focus Areas

Four connected pathways to stronger communities.

Creating pathways to learning and opportunity

We work to improve access to foundational learning, digital literacy and educational opportunities for children and young people who face barriers to quality education.

  • Child literacy and foundational learning
  • School readiness and transition to formal education
  • Digital and computer literacy
  • ICT clubs and learning resources
  • Teacher capacity building
  • Inclusive education

Healthier communities, stronger futures

Healthy communities are better able to learn, work and thrive. Our health work focuses on prevention, awareness, healthy behaviours and community-level action, working with local institutions and partners to address priority health needs.

  • Oral health awareness
  • School and community health education
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Nutrition awareness
  • Youth-friendly health information
  • Healthy lifestyles and referrals

Expanding pathways to economic opportunity

Economic security is about more than income. It is about giving individuals and households the knowledge, skills, resources and networks they need to make better economic choices and withstand shocks.

  • Women and youth economic empowerment
  • Savings groups and financial literacy
  • Entrepreneurship and business development
  • Practical skills and employability
  • Market linkages
  • Sustainable livelihoods

Building resilience in a changing climate

Communities are increasingly affected by environmental degradation, changing weather patterns, water stress and pressure on natural resources. Development Corners seeks to strengthen resilience by promoting practical approaches that protect natural resources while supporting livelihoods.

  • Climate-smart agriculture and agroecology
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Tree planting and forest regeneration
  • Sustainable water management
  • Climate awareness
  • Youth participation in environmental action
  • Green and sustainable livelihoods
Progress built together.

Our Journey

From community experience to an independent organisation.

The experience behind Development Corners began in 2011 through community development programmes implemented under MC-Zambia.For more than 13 years, these programmes supported vulnerable children, young people, women and families in fishing communities within Kafue District through education, health promotion, economic empowerment and environmental initiatives.

In 2026, Development Corners was formally established as an independent Zambian non-governmental organisation. This transition marks a new chapter centred on stronger local ownership, independent governance, community leadership and a broader development vision.

We are proud of the experience and results achieved through our previous programmes. Development Corners carries these lessons, relationships and commitments forward while building its own systems, partnerships and identity.
